Learning Center
The Library Learning Center (LLC)
is a new computer teaching lab designed to facilitate interactive learning.
All library workshops take place in the
LLC. The facility is also available for
use by IIT faculty and members of the community.
In the summer of 2000 the Galvin Library was awarded a $121,000 grant
from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) through the Illinois
State Library to establish a community program to develop opportunities
for residents through enhanced information skills. The funds were
used to purchase workstations, software, and furniture for an instruction
room in the Library. The Galvin Library staff has developed a number
of online tutorials for area residents, focusing on school teachers, librarians,
administrators, counselors, and students as well as other professionals in
the area such as librarians from public libraries and members of
professional associations.
Following the LSTA funding, IIT remodeled the
instruction room in the library. It was recently completed
in 2001 and is now available for classroom instruction. When
not in use for instruction by Galvin Library staff, IIT faculty
may schedule the room for classes by accessing the request
form or contacting Paul Go.
Please read our LLC Scheduling
Policy for more detail. If you would like to schedule
library instruction in the classroom, please send an email to libraryinstruction@iit.edu.
Members of the Near-South side community should view our Community
