Library Learning Center (LLC) Usage Policy

The primary function of the library instruction classroom is to provide an environment for librarians to teach classes on search strategies and library resources specific to a discipline as requested and scheduled by the IIT community. 

Equipment

The LLC contains 20 workstations, plus an instructor’s workstation (login instructions for that workstation are at that computer). 

Hardware

Dell OptiPlex Pentium 4- 2.8 GHz Processor

  • 1GB RAM

  • 80 GB Hard Drive

  • 1000/100 Ethernet Network Card

  • Swappable Bay

    • Floppy or DVD Drive 

  •  6 USB 2.0 Ports

  • 15" Flat Panel (LCD) Monitors

LLC  contains;  a HP ScanJet ADF scanner. A ceiling mounted projector displays the instructor’s screen on an interactive Smart Board. Documentation is available on how to use LLC projection and media equipment. A DVD/ VCR is also available. Please contact Paul Go (7-7997) if you wish to use it.

Software

Each PC in LLC offers the following applications:

  • Internet Explorer/ Firefox

  • Microsoft Office 2003 (Access, Excel, FrontPage, Power Point, Project, Publisher, Word) 

  • ArcView GIS

  • ArcView Spatial Analyst

  • Windows Media Player

  • Real Player

  • Quick Time Player

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0

  • Adobe Photoshop 6.0

Who may use the LLC

Members of the IIT community. The LLC is not intended for use as a general purpose computer lab. Classes that incorporate interactive, hands-on instruction will receive priority over classes that primarily offer demonstrations.

Priority for use of the LLC will be given in this order:

  • Library instruction sessions taught by Galvin librarians

  • Requests from university programs

Scheduling a class in the LLC

Library Instruction

Requests for Library Instruction, sessions where a librarian leads the class in use of library resources, should be addressed to Jeanne Link at 7-3595 or link@iit.edu.

Requests for use of the room without a librarian go to Paul Go at 7-7997. An online request form is also available. 

Please give 48 hours advance notice when scheduling so that training time may be scheduled with Paul Go

Classes cannot be scheduled for an entire semester in the LLC. Summer programs are the only exceptions.

Due to staffing considerations, the room is available during the regular workday of the work week only. Weekend and evening hours are available only by exception.


Cancellation Policies

  • Please give Paul Go 24 hours notice if you are not going to use the room for the time you have reserved it.

  • If you have reserved the room, do not use it, and do not cancel your reservation, the Library reserves the right to refuse your future requests.


General Policies

  • No food or drink is permitted in the LLC. 

  • User installed USB flash drive can be the default storage drive. DVD drives are  installed.
    All machines must be properly shut down. See the closing procedure. 

  • The projection equipment must be properly shut down and the retractable projection mirror closed and the lights turned off. See the closing procedure

  • Mandatory one time training for new classroom instructors.


Technical Assistance

If you are new to using the LLC, please allow for a half hour training time. Training time usually takes place a half hour before you use the room unless the room is in use and a separate training time needs to be scheduled. Group training is available on request.
