Review:
The American Institute of Steel Consruction (AISC) is a not-for-profit
technical institute and trade association serving the structural steel
design community and construction industry. They are perhaps best
known for their comprehensive "Manual of Steel Construction."
This website provides many free publications of the AISC,
including specifications and codes, siesmic resources, and revisions to
AISC publications. Some sections, such as the "Technical
Library", are free only to members of the AISC while the rest is free
to everybody. Civil Engineering
Virtual Library
http://www.ce.gatech.edu/WWW-CE/
Review: This site, hosted by the
Georgia Institute of Technology, is an extension of the WWW
Virtual Library project specializing in information related to
Civil Engineering. It provides links to numerous free
websites, organized into Commercial, Educational, Organizational,
and Journal groups. The database of links is completely searchable
to provide easy viewing. (Reviewed 6/18/02)
CodeCheck
http://www.codecheck.com/
Review: Codecheck is a swift way
of checking for the most common violations of building codes. It is
not meant to supercede the printed local Codes, but merely to
emphasize the central life-safety principles that underlie building
codes throughout the United States.
iCivilEngineer
http://www.icivilengineer.com
Review: iCivilEngineer
is a free, advertising supported, information gateway especially
designed for civil engineers. Its
main emphasis is in news and current awareness, with many links to
civil engineering news, new civil engineering projects, new journal
articles, and mail and discussion groups.

eFunda
– Engineerining Fundamentals
(formulas, constants, properties)
http://www.efunda.com/
Review: A
handy source for formulas and constants with information pertaining
to materials properties, processes and design.
Design content includes calculations for beams, stress
transforms, and principle stress.
The content leans towards mechanical but is useful to all
engineering disciplines. NOTE: eFunda has changed to a paid membership site. It now sets a cookie on your browser that limits you to about 5 minutes of free access. (Reviewed 10/26/07)
