organization working to improve the scientific basis for making
decisions on environmental issues through creation of a new, non-regulatory
environmental science and education entity, the National Institute
for the Environment (NIE).
Congressional Research Service

Review:The
Congressional Research Service (CRS), part of the Library of Congress,
prepares its reports for the U.S. Congress. CRS products undergo review
for accuracy and objectivity and contain nontechnical information
that can be very useful to people interested in environmental policy.
CNIE is obtaining copies of the CRS reports, converting them to an
Internet-compatible format and placing them online. As new or updated
CRS reports related to environmental or resource issues become available,
CNIE will add them to this library.

The Energy Efficiency
And Renewable Energy Database

Review: This bibliographic database
is a subset of the Energy Science and Technology Database (EDB)
created and maintained by the Department of Energy, Office of Scientific
and Technical Information (OSTI). The database contains all unlimited,
unclassified scientific and technical information relating to energy
efficiency and renewable energy topics processed at OSTI that is
DOE sponsored or published in the United States. Additional information
is acquired from, but is not limited to, interagency agreements
with the National Technical Information Service, the NASA Scientific
and Technical Information Division, and the Defense Technical Information
Center. This subset contains records with EDB entry dates beginning
January 1, 1994 and continuing through the present.

Review: This resource is a
searchable, Agency-wide catalog of more than 4,000 science
activities such as research, technical assistance and assessments.
The database contains more than 19,000 records in the archives
including project descriptions, products produced, types of peer
review, links to related work and contacts for additional
information. Users can conduct keyword searches or search within
nine cross-cutting science topics.

INFOTERRA

Review: INFOTERRA is an international
environmental referral and research network made up of about 170
countries coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme
(UNEP) in Nairobi, Kenya. The services offered by INFOTERRA/USA
include responding to requests from the international community
for environmental information through document delivery, database
searching, bibliographic products, purchasing information, and referrals
to experts. Additionally, INFOTERRA/USA will assist U.S. esidents
in identifying sources of international environmental information.
